Like Mother, Like Daughter

My Grandparents bought this boat new in 1979. It's a 1978 Glastron with a 1979 Evinrude 100 HP Engine. When I was a kid, it was the prettiest boat on the lake. It was so sparkley blue and went so fast!

Every spring, I would help my Grandpa polish it, well sort of. I would sit on the front seat and use just my tiny little index finger to polish the dash near the glove box. When my grandparents retired and bought a new boat, they passed it on to my parents. We used that boat like crazy when we were kids. Nearly every weekend we would head out to a lake to ski, fish, or tube. I've told my parents many times that my best childhood memories are on that boat. Our family would fight like hell putting it in and taking it out of the water. Once that boat was launched, we only fought over who would ski next.

This is our second summer with the boat. Mom and Dad bought a new one and passed the old Glastron on to us. The first time we took out Mike's brother, Brian, he asked where the cupholders were. We responded with "Brian, this boat is pre-cupholders."

It's getting old now - it doesn't go quite as fast and isn't quite so shiny anymore. Things are starting to rot and the old girl only has a few more years left in her. New boats have many more features and amenities - like cupholders. This boat has one thing that pretty new boats don't have: years and years of great memories. You can't buy that at the boat dealership.

We will keep taking the old Glastron out until she doesn't float anymore - and then - we'll buy that shiny new boat to make more memories on. I'm going to name it "Time Well Wasted."
