Each year the Minnesota Zoo has a special farm babies exhibit. We like to bring Madison to it so she can have the opportunity to see and pet farm animals. (this opportunity is rare when you live in the city!) The little farm babies are so cute, especially the lambs and piglets. Last year, Madison was too scared to go near them. This year, she was still frightened but a little less so! Maybe by next spring she'll be chasing the goats, lambs and piglets around the Wells Fargo Family Farm.
We did not have the opportunity to pet most of the farm babies this year due to the cold spring that we have had. Health regulations require hand washing stations near the exhibits which aren't working yet due to the farm buildings not being heated.
We couldn't have asked for a better day to visit the zoo. The sun was shining and felt warm on our pasty winter white skin. The weather has been dramatically colder and wetter since our trip to the zoo last Saturday.
If you're looking for another sign that spring is here, despite the weather....Madison started swimming lessons last week. We put her in lessons each spring so she can get used to being in water again and ready for swimming off the boat!! She did much better this time around. Her first lesson last year consisted of her screaming and me feeling like the only parent whose kid hated swimming lessons. This time, we talked about swimming lessons for days before. The night before she picked out which swimming suit she would wear. (she picked a cute Dora two-piece) When we got there, she couldn't wait to get in the pool. While we were singing songs and learning from our teacher, Madison kept saying "Let go, Mommy. I swim myself!" She even put her face in the water to blow bubbles and make motorboat sounds!
